My Wishlist [30.10.2007]

If I had unlimited resources and way better skills what would BestQualityCrab be able to do?

Mundane Wishes:

Draggable Markers Sometimes a street address is not enough and a GPS measure isn't available. And sometimes they don't correspond to where you know something should be located.

Mapsearch See the other posts in feedback.

Linked Markers To show routes

In an Ideal World Wishes:

Panoramic Street Views in the map (rather than video files uploaded to the posts).

Map Motivation in which clicking a tag or archived item moves the main map to the place associated with that description.

Map Layering so I can compare maps of the same place at different times for instance.

Map Archiving where clicking on a calendar shows the mapblog at the particular point in time.

hey there - so geography is the ultimate zoomable user interface(zui). I mean chaos theory and those psychedelic fractals that backdrop too many of my memories of the 80's taught us that yeah?

[unfortunately the big G decided that there are limits to the resolution of a map... and i'm left wondering what the experience of something different might be like]

so: our geography, given its singular topology, means things can only be in one place at a time. this is problematic, or at least frustrating to someone like me who suffers from digitally imposed ADD.

feature thoughts that spring to mind with BQC are:

  • map is one view - like tags, chronology, categories are just one slice'n'dice of the database.
  • can a post be attached to a volume, an area, a trail.. etc etc
  • can i filter the spatially located posts by time? (that was inspired by the einstein quote btw)

-- you've just made me wonder if i could have a blog that exists only in the comments left on other people's blogs. note to self: research this

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for the feedback - and the salient questions. Getting places to 'relate' to each other is something that I've grappled with as I've started using the blog. I like your idea of being able to identify locations as 'areas' rather than points...I'll see what can be done about that. The question of filtering by time is one that we've been tossing around for a while - not sure how feasible it is in the current iteration but its something we definitely want later down the track (and it relates directly to the research work I'm doing with GIS). cheers Deb
